In line with the digital transition of NTNU, the Norwegian industry and government agencies, the RAMS group is customizing our educational efforts and research in the same direction. An important part of this effort is to provide students at all levels (BSc, MSc, PhD) with up to date laboratory facilities for RAMS real-world related experiments.
The starting point for the RAMS lab is to support educational and research activities related to maintenance and in particular related to predictive maintenance. A further perspective is to include risk and reliability as part of the RAMS lab.
The physical lab is placed in the vicinity of the RAMS group, at present Valgrinda.
In addition to the physical we also have a virtual lab. This lab comprises “real life” systems and associated data collection systems. Currently we have installed /are installing sensor systems in our collaborating companies:
Sensor data from these installations are available in real-time from the cloud and accessible for student project and other research activities at NTNU.

RT 578 Control of four variables from process engineering | The RT 578 facilitates practical learning in the control of four controlled variables which are commonplace in process engineering. A circuit with a graduated transparent tank is provided for the control of flow rate, level and pressure. Two actuator possibilities are included for use, namely, a variable-speed pump and a pneumatic control valve. A disturbance variable can be generated by a valve in the tank outlet for level and pressure control. A valve at the tank head also permits investigation of level control with and without counter pressure. A heating circuit with a heater, heat exchanger and pump is provided for temperature control. The temperature can be controlled using the heater as the actuator, or by way of the flow of cooling water through the heat exchanger. |
