Veien frem til “World Class Maintenance”: Maintenance
Optimisation
Ch 1 - Introduction
Ch 7 - Failure Models relevant to Maintenance
- Understand the qualitative aspects of the 4 models
- Understand the type of maintenance for each model
- Understand the decision variable(s) for each model
- Basically this is covered in Section 7.2
Ch 9 - Structure function and system reliability
- Be able to map a system description into a reliability block diagram (RBD)
- Be able to derive the structure function for simple serial and parallel structures
- Be able to calculate component reliability, and in particular understand the formulas
A = MTTF/(MTTF + MDT), and U = MDT/(MTTF + MDT) ≈ MDT / MTTF.
- Be able to use the structure function as basis for calculating the system reliability
Ch 10 - Reliability Centred
Maintenance (RCM)
- Be able to explain the main steps of an RCM analysis
- Based upon logical reasoning be able to recall the questions and answers leading up to maintenance tasks when using the RCM decision logic
- Be able to use the RCM decision logic in a practical setting
Ch 11 - Simplified Risk Modelling and Optimising
The chapter covers a range of situations for optimization. As a minimum:
- Be able to explain the meaning of the effective failure rate, λE(τ)
- Be able to argue why the cost equation for age based replacement often takes the form: C(τ) =
CPM/τ + λE(τ)[CCM + CEP
+ CES + CEM]
- Be able to explain why we often write: CEP = Pr(P) ⋅ (CP ⋅ MDT +CT)
- Be able to use the cost equation to obtain the optimal maintenance interval for practical situations
